"Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." -Mike Tyson
I guarantee you, today will not be perfect.
You may wake up thinking otherwise,
But your expectations will soon be broken.
You may be sleep deprived from the night before.
You may stub your toe on the way to the bathroom.
You may be running late during your morning routines.
You may have forgotten to buy your favorite breakfast foods.
You might just check the latest news stories.
You may get in an accident on your way to work.
You may run into traffic on the highway.
You might have a nasty email waiting in your inbox.
You might argue with a co-worker.
You might be forced to sit in one too many meetings.
You may question whether you're in the right profession.
You may encounter more traffic on the way home.
You may not have time to get the exercise you need.
Your spouse or kids might have had bad days,
And they take it out on you.
Your friends might be unable to make it to your party.
Your weekend plans get canceled by rain.
Even worse, your career may fall apart.
Your reputation might be tarnished.
Your close friend may die unexpectedly.
Your lover may leave or betray you.
Your lab results may not come back with good news.
You must face your own mortality and limitations.
The sum of all that can go wrong today,
Is bound only by your imagination,
And the 24-hour clock.
The sum of your ability to deal with imperfection,
Is bound only by your acceptance of it,
And your focus on right now.
What do you have control over at this moment?
Your attention, your attitude, your actions,
Your expectations, and your interpretation
Of your experiences.
There is no such thing as bad weather,
Only improper clothing.
There is no such thing as a bad day,
Only improper expectations.
Each morning, if you bet on imperfection,
You will be right 99.9% of the time,
And when things do go right,
You will have more energy to smile,
Having not wasted your time on what could never have been.
Be ready for good things, But not dependent on them happening,
For your own happiness.
Work toward the goals that only you have control over:
Being a kinder, more honest and responsible human,
Valuing improving over winning,
And doing right over being right.
