Today, in contemplation, I began searching for inspiration,
I looked far and wide for the tie that binds,
Together the books of the greatest of minds,
But the words only caused me frustration.
Into nature I went, my humanity I was soon to forget,
I heard the rain fall and the wind blow,
I sat under the trees and watched the river flow,
But, alas, I found no enlightenment.
I went out on the town, to track the answer down,
I laughed and I cried to stories untold,
Of battles fought with friends new and old,
But inspiration was still nowhere to be found.
On my way home I let my mind roam,
And while the walk wasn’t long,
It circled a glimmering pond,
Which I gazed into, thinking I was alone.
Much to my surprise, I saw without eyes,
The very answer I had been after,
It was right there on the water,
And all I had to do was realize.
Inspiration, you see, is not something to seek,
It’s not something to uncover,
Or a truth to discover,
It’s waiting inside of you and me.
“To see a World in a grain of sand,
And a Heaven in a wild flower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand,
And Eternity in an hour.”
What I could not make, I must thank Blake,
For his vision into places truly unreal.
