We have a full moon coming up on July 3rd. Other than looking at it, I’ve never taken the time to be more intentional about celebrating this natural wonder. Throughout history and civilizations, full moons have been considered a time of good fortune and represented a time of increased spiritual connection. It is often seen as a time of heightened energy and illumination. The round shape of the full moon is considered a symbol of completion and wholeness.
Another reason to celebrate the full moon is that it connects us more deeply to nature. The cycles of the moon have long been observed and revered as a natural rhythm. By engaging in rituals during the full moon, individuals may seek to reconnect with nature and align themselves with the broader cosmic cycles. This practice can help foster a sense of harmony, balance, and connection with the natural world. As I’ve written before, rituals really just mean doing something with an intention.
Engaging in rituals during the full moon can provide individuals with a focused time and space to set intentions, release what no longer serves them, or work towards personal goals. It can be a way to reflect on one's desires, emotions, and personal growth. The ritualistic aspect of these practices can also create a sense of empowerment and mindfulness.
Here are some rituals you can consider performing during a full moon:
Moon Gazing: Find a quiet outdoor space where you have a clear view of the full moon. Sit or lie down comfortably and spend some time gazing at the moon. Take deep breaths and allow yourself to feel a sense of calm and connection.
Meditation: Full moons are a great time for meditation and reflection. Find a quiet and peaceful place, light some candles, and meditate on your intentions and desires. You can focus on releasing what no longer serves you and inviting positive energy into your life.
Moon Bathing: Take a moonlit bath by adding some soothing essential oils or bath salts to your bathwater. As you soak, imagine the moon's energy cleansing and rejuvenating your body, mind, and spirit.
Moon Water Ritual: Place a bowl or jar of clean water outside under the moonlight. Allow it to absorb the moon's energy overnight. The next morning, use the moon water for cleansing rituals, watering your plants, or simply drink it to imbibe the moon's energy.
Full Moon Release: Write down any negative emotions, limiting beliefs, or aspects of your life that you wish to let go of on a piece of paper. Take this paper outside, read aloud what you've written, and then burn it as a symbolic act of release. As the paper burns, visualize those negative energies being transformed and released into the universe.
Full Moon Manifestation: Write down your intentions, goals, or desires on a piece of paper. Be specific and positive in your wording. Hold the paper up to the moon and visualize your intentions manifesting. You can keep the paper in a safe place or bury it in the ground as a symbol of planting your desires and letting them grow.
Moonlight Dance or Yoga: Engage in a gentle and rhythmic movement practice outdoors under the moonlight. Whether it's dancing, yoga, or tai chi, let the moon's energy guide your movements and bring a sense of flow and harmony.
Remember, these rituals are meant to be personal and meaningful to you. Trust your intuition and adapt them to suit your beliefs and preferences.
